WASTE (RADIOACTIVE) Solid, liquid and gaseous materials that are radioactive and for which there is no further use. Classified as either high level, intermediate level, or low level. Universities typically generate low-level radioactive waste.
WHOLE BODY EXPOSURE An external exposure of radiation to the head, trunk, gonads, arms above the elbow or legs above the knee.
WIPE TEST A test made for the purpose of determining the presence of removable radioactive contamination on a surface. Usually performed by wiping a surface with filter paper and analyzing the sample via liquid scintillation counting or gamma counting methods.
