| WASTE (RADIOACTIVE) | Solid, liquid and gaseous materials that are radioactive and for which there is no further use. Classified as either high level, intermediate level, or low level. Universities typically generate low-level radioactive waste. |
| WHOLE BODY EXPOSURE | An external exposure of radiation to the head, trunk, gonads, arms above the elbow or legs above the knee. |
| WIPE TEST | A test made for the purpose of determining the presence of removable radioactive contamination on a surface. Usually performed by wiping a surface with filter paper and analyzing the sample via liquid scintillation counting or gamma counting methods. |
